About our translations
Road rules are legal information, so we are careful about translation:
- The English version is always the reference.
- Every translated lesson records the original English, who translated it, its verification status and when it was last reviewed.
- Translations that haven't been professionally reviewed are clearly labelled "Unofficial learning translation".
- We don't rely only on machine translation for legal rules. At the moment, interface text and a small number of lesson summaries are machine-assisted drafts awaiting professional review.
NZTA also publishes some learner guides in other languages on the Drive website.
